The Tamiya TAM81021 Acrylic X21 Flat Base is a water-soluble acrylic mixing medium used to convert Tamiya X-series gloss acrylic paints to a flat finish. By mixing X21 Flat Base into any Tamiya X-series color, you can dial in the exact level of flatness needed for your scale modeling application — from semi-gloss to fully flat — without changing the color. X21 is also used as a standalone flat coat medium when mixed with Tamiya acrylic thinner. Compatible with brush painting and airbrushing.

How to Use

• Mix X21 Flat Base into any Tamiya X-series gloss acrylic to reduce or eliminate gloss
• Adjust the ratio to achieve the desired finish level — more X21 = flatter finish
• Thin for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner (81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077)
• For brush painting, use Tamiya Paint Retarder (87114) for a smoother, brushstroke-free finish
• X-series colors are gloss finish; XF-series colors are already flat finish and do not require X21
